The M250X comes loaded with 512 MB of DDR2 SDRAM on two modules. In addition to being DDR2, the memory runs at 533 MHz.

Hands down, the M250X has one of the best memory packages available in an ultralight notebook. And for users who need more memory, Gateway makes available 2 GB of extra memory as an upgrade option when purchasing the system. ”

The conclusion of this Gateway M250 review:

The Gateway M250X is available, as reviewed, directly from Gateway for $899. There is no doubt about it: The system is a great deal and a true bargain for any I.T. manager. But keep in mind that you will need to spend a few hundred dollars on upgrades to make this notebook amazing.

However, even after the upgrades and additional costs, the M250X is one of the best ultralights on the market. Overall, on a scale from one to five, I rate the Gateway M250X a 4.7.

Another review comes from PC Magazine which recently featured an Gateway M250XL review which is the same system as Gateway M250X, using a slightly different processor:

“The handsome silver exterior is nothing flashy, which should be fine for students who care more about work than looks. The 5.1-pound unit isn’t the lightest around, but it’s still very portable. And the extra weight gains you a large, bright widescreen (14.1 inches, versus 12.1 on the Dell Inspiron 700m) that’s great for both work and play.

All told, the Gateway M250XL is a solid, no-nonsense notebook that delivers a lot of performance and features for the price. It’s got a big-enough screen in a portable-enough package. “

The new Gateway M250 laptop comes in two preconfigured models: the Gateway M250S and Gateway M250X.
