PalmOne Tungsten E2 Reviews
There are a lot of reviews for this new hanheld device from Palm, and here are the most important ones.
CNET Reviews has a review of the Palm Tungsten E2 Pda which gets a “Very Good” rating (7.5 points):
The rumor mill kicks into overdrive whenever a new handheld gears up to hit the market, grinding the grist of blog-based guesswork into speculation. So while everyone knew that the PalmOne Tungsten E2 PDA was imminent, this cat is finally out of the bag, and he’s bringing all the final details with him. As the successor to and the replacement for the popular Palm Tungsten E (according to the company, the top-selling PDA across all price points for the past 17 months), the Tungsten E2 from Palm boasts the same sleek and compact form factor as its older sibling but ups the ante with performance-enhancing features, such as an updated OS and a brighter color screen. Factor in impressive battery life and an affordable $249 price tag, and PalmOne has another winner on its hands. Unless you need a powerhouse PDA with integrated Wi-Fi and a faster processor, the new Tungsten E2 PDA from PalmOne should do the trick for any home user or mobile pro.
InfoSyncWorld writes about the PalmOne Tungsten E2 (review): “The Tungsten E2 handheld uses the same design as the Tungsten E and Tungsten T5. The silver plastic tablet sits well in the hand at 114 x 78 x 15 mm, only a hair larger than the TE, and is a comfortable 133 grams. A square 320 x 320 16-bit color TFT offers slightly improved visual quality from palmOne’s already excellent screen design, although still incorporates only a fixed handwriting area.
The Tungsten E2 is a only a modest upgrade to its predecessor, but it’s upgrading from a best seller. Current Tungsten E users probably won’t see a need to upgrade unless they have a dying need for Bluetooth, but the E2 does keep palmOne’s entry-level offerings up to date with the latest expectations with the company’s usual finesse. Most significant is the now butt-kicking battery life, a feature that, combined with Bluetooth, justifies the $50 premium over the Tungsten E’s launch price.”
Another palmOne Tungsten E2 review comes from BargainPDA. They write:
“Best selling. Best value. Most popular with new users.
Pros: Non-volatile RAM, Improved display, Better battery life, Bluetooth, Priced well
…
Bottom Line:
I recommend this as an immediate upgrade for anyone who has a TE and is quite happy with it. You will wonder how you got along without some of these features. For those looking for an inexpensive PalmOS handheld, you really cannot beat this value-packed package. Will the Tungsten E2 PDA break the records set by its predecessor? It has a good chance to. The key will be getting it into the eyes and hands of those who already have the original and letting it sell itself.”
And of course PC Magazine featured an PalmOne Tungsten E2 review:
The Tungsten E2 PDA from Palm has a faster 200-MHz processor (compared with the E’s 126 MHz), a brighter screen, and smoother conduits for syncing with Microsoft Outlook. And configuring Bluetooth is simpler, in case you want to hook the handheld up to a mobile phone to surf the Net or check e-mail. Our Tungsten E2 pda connected very easily to a Motorola V551 and downloaded e-mail quickly, but we were still a little disappointed by palmOne’s hoary list of officially supported phones, which hasn’t been updated since last November. We also synchronized and connected to the Internet via a Bluetooth-enabled PC, though that took knowledge of some obscure Microsoft Windows settings. (Why doesn’t palmOne offer a tool to configure your PC properly?) If you need Wi-Fi, a $99 SDIO expansion card will become available next month from palmOne.
