Averatec 4200 Reviews

There are some very good reviews of this system that have been recently published.

CNet Reviews has a Averatec 4200 review and writes about this Averatec notebook:

“Designed for highly mobile students and cost-conscious business travelers, the $1,199 (as of August 2005) Averatec 4200 thin-and-light laptop is priced low and offers plenty of features, including a DVD burner. While the system demonstrated great battery life, if you have your heart set on a machine with screaming performance, you’ll be sorely disappointed.”

Appreciated features: Low price; playful design; good battery life; very portable; multiformat DVD burner.

This laptop receives an “Average” rating (5.4 points): “The colorful Averatec 4200 may not deliver the fastest performance, but it has enough oomph for basic tasks and offers some nice features, including a DVD burner, at a bargain price.”

PC Magazine writes about Averatec AV4265-EH1 (review): “Averatec continues to impress with the latest addition to its successful line of affordable notebooks. The newly designed Averatec AV4265-EH1 ($1,200 street) has good looks to go along with its attractive price. The vivid 13.3-inch widescreen, very totable 4.6-pound frame, 80GB hard drive, and average performance make the AV4265-EH1 the ideal notebook for college-bound students—or anyone on a budget who puts a premium on portability but doesn’t want to sacrifice features.”

PC World writes about the Averatec 4200 AV4265-EH1AV4265:
“Not too big and not too small, the 13.3-inch wide screen on the AV4265-EH1, a member of the Averatec 4200 series of notebooks, will likely be just the right size for a lot of people. It offers more elbowroom than a 12.1-inch WXGA screen, and the aspect ratio is 16:9 instead of the standard 16:10, so you get a smidge more width compared to height than with other wide screens. Yet laptops equipped with these rare-size screens (Sony is the only other vendor who sells them) are still light enough to carry easily. Sold at a handful of retail sites for around $1200, the Averatec 4200 weighs 4.7 pounds, not counting its power adapter. That’s quite a bit lighter than most 14.1-inch wide screens I’ve seen, which can top 6 pounds.”

MobileTechReview features another review of the Averatec 4200 13″ Widescreen Notebook :

Who says a widescreen Centrino notebook with a bright, glassy display weighing less than 5 lbs. has to cost $2,000 or more? Averatec has a way of bringing notebooks to market that cost far less than competing brands. While Averatec’s very first notebooks sold several years ago were light but average in looks and specs, their latest offerings have great specs and the looks to match, targeting potential Sony Vaio and Apple iBook buyers.

The Averatec 4200’s interior is finished in matte white, while the outside cover is a deep blue. Averatec plans to offer a selection of very attractive top cover colors and we saw a range of those colors in person, some of which you can see below. In addition, they’ll offer a send-in service for those who wish to change their notebook’s cover color. ”

And the conclusion of this Averatec 4200 review is :

Wow, only $1,199 list price for a slick looking 13.3″ widescreen notebook that weighs less than 5 pounds?! Not only that, Averatec didn’t scrimp on the internals: the latest Centrino chipset, a 1.6 GHz Pentium M processor, 512 megs of RAM and a DVD burner inside. Great stuff! The display is a joy, the notebook works as good as it looks, it offers good runtimes and won’t burn a hole in your pants since the CPU is cool compared to mobile Pentium IV processors. Our only complaint is the somewhat dead, short travel keyboard; but if you’re on a budget and have rich tastes, you’ll likely accommodate to it in short order.
