HP Compaq Presario V2000 reviews
Here some nice reviews of the Compaq Presario V2000 (for different models of the V2000 series which comes with the Mobile AMD Sempron 2800+ CPU or Intel M processor)
Recently, PC Magazine published an HP Compaq Presario V2000 (Sempron) laptopreview:
“The HP Compaq Presario V2000 ($699 as tested) is a value notebook in the truest sense of the word. It’s void of all bells and whistles found on more expensive systems, but it performs well and comes with the basic necessities—namely a 40GB hard drive, a DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and an AMD Sempron processor, that will get you through the daily grind.
Using the Sempron 2800+ (1.6 GHz) processor, which is part of AMD’s value line, along with the ATI Mobility Radeon integrated graphics performance was okay. The integrated graphics are not adequate for 3D gaming, but avid gamers won’t be looking at this Presario V2000 notebook anyway. The graphics are, however, average for what this system is meant to do, namely e-mail, word processing, and Web browsing. By comparison, the Averatec scored about 8 percent higher on SYSmark— not very noticeable in real-world applications. The V2000’s battery lasted 2 hours 10 minutes on our BatteryMark tests. The Averatec fared a little bit better (2:25) with a similar-size battery (44 Wh). For an additional 3 hours of battery life, you can buy the optional 9-cell battery for $25.
The HP Compaq Presario V2000 laptop is a solid system for basic day to day computing, but to get the most from your money, consider spending a bit more on a system that will pay dividends, like the Averatec AV3270-EE1.”
PCWorld.com also writes about the Compaq Presario V2000: “This sleek, lightweight unit has a great screen and outstanding battery life. ”
If you’re considering a wide-screen laptop for travel, the Compaq Presario V2000 belongs at the top of your list. At just 6.1 pounds (not including the AC adapter), this compact unit is easier to carry than many competing wide-screen notebooks. Its 14.1-inch BrightView screen, an inch shorter than a standard 14.1-inch screen, should clear an airline seat back much more easily.
The Compaq V2000’s bright WXGA screen is consodered top-of-the-line. With a native resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels, this laptop displays icons that are big enough to read easily while giving you an extra inch of width (it’s as wide as a standard 15-inch screen).
In conclusion:
“When equipped with a 1.8-GHz Pentium M 745 processor, the Compaq Presario V2000 laptop zips along at a creditable clip; it earned a WorldBench 5 score of 75 in our tests–a statistically insignificant 2 points behind the mark posted by a similarly configured IBM ThinkPad T42.
With its light weight, long battery life, and easy-to-read screen, the Compaq Presario V2000 notebook from HP might be the perfect wide-screen laptop, especially for road warriors.”
Laptop Logic has an review of the Compaq Presario V2000 Dothan (Intel M) laptop:
Students and home users demand a laptop that is inexpensive and lightweight, with enough power to perform basic tasks. The Compaq V2000 laptop is aimed directly at this niche, providing a mid-range Pentium M 725 in a lightweight 5.25 lb chassis, starting at an affordable $1000. While performance is certainly not the fastest, the V2000 handles perfectly as an on-the-go multimedia machine.
Although performance was only slightly lower to that of the much more expensive Sony A250, both hard drive and graphics performed poorly. It’s unfortunate Compaq does not offer a high speed hard drive alternative, such as the Hitachi 60GB 7200rpm. This shortcoming should not affect its position as a great laptop for its cost. Battery life is mediocre, given the CPU. The display is terrific, as well as its speaker system. Students should find this a great deal, thanks to its price, portability, and decent performance. People interested in a multimedia laptop should also consider the HP V2000 notebook, due to its terrific transreflective (BrightView) screen, features, and great sounding speakers. The upgrades are many, ranging from Bluetooth to the DVD burner. The Compaq Presario V2000 is a great laptop at a great price, as long as you stay away from 3D graphics.
