LinuxCertified LC2464 Review

A more deep, third party review of the LinuxCertified LC2464 laptop comes from ars technica:

“The LC2464 is a decent size at about 14″ x 10.5″ x 1.5″. Its sleek exterior and sturdy design are compelling, but at about 3.5 kg it isn’t really the kind of machine you will want to tote around everywhere. The LC2464 is definitely a mobile desktop replacement, not a traditional laptop.

The LC2464 is fully loaded. It has three USB ports, a Firewire port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, SPDIF output, an IR port, an ethernet jack, a modem jack, a parallel port, a VGA port, an S-Video output port and a PCMCIA slot.

LinuxCertified will add wireless networking support for US$99. The wireless drivers are all configured appropriately by default, but you may need to tweak the configuration and manually to tell it which ESSID to use. My crappy Netgear wireless router doesn’t like dchcpd (one of the standard Linux dhcp clients), but I got it working after I upgraded the router firmware.”

About the 64-bit processor:

The Athlon64 Mobile 2800+ is a high-performance 64-bit processor featuring AMD’s Power Now and HyperTransport technologies. The integrated memory controller and 1MB L2 cache make this processor a force to be reckoned with. The compiler hauls ass, the desktop environment interface is snappy and responsive, and the system handles multitasking extraordinarily well. You can watch a divx movie during compilation and notice no discernible loss in video playback performance. The LC2464 truly gives you high-end desktop performance in a mobile system.
