Motion LS800 Reviews

Recently, ZDnet made a first look review of the Motion LS800 Tablet PC . They are saying:
“About the size of a paperback book and weighing 1kg, the slate-style LS800 Tablet PC from Motion Computing occupies the grey area between a Pocket PC handheld and an ultraportable notebook.

With its highly portable case and its high price tag, the Motion LS800 portable is most likely to appeal to workers in the medical, manufacturing and utilities industries — or any specialised field that requires employees to fill out forms, take handwritten notes and send data back to a central office. Still, its small dimensions and full Windows XP functionality will certainly catch the eye of gadget enthusiasts and other everyday users with special needs. We look forward to evaluating it in more detail, and will post a full review soon.”

The Motion LS800 tablet pc may be small, but don’t underestimate its power. The system integrates an ultra-low-voltage Pentium M 753 (1.2 GHz), 512MB RAM, and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 GM graphics. We were unable to run SYSmark 2004 on this tablet because of its 800-by-600 maximum resolution (the tests require a minimum of 1,024-by-768) The battery is small, at only 29 Wh, which keeps the weight down, but the company claims it will last up to 3 hours.

The new LS800 from Motion Computing is the smallest slate Tablet PC we’ve seen to date. That is impressive, but Motion Computing needs to get a handle on the heat issue and somehow increase the battery life in order to realize the unit’s potential. Lowering the price a little wouldn’t hurt either.

From the producer (Motion Computing):

“Motion received frequent feedback from customers about the need for a lightweight, compact and powerful tablet PC. With the new LS800 tablet PC, we are answering an unmet need for hands-free mobility and productivity across the mobile workforce; raising the bar for the tablet PC market. Motion is defining a new category of tablet PC with this ultra-portable slate,” said Scott Eckert, Motion Computing’s CEO. “The LS800 complements Motion’s offering of best-in-class tablet PCs and accessories, while extending the company’s leadership to new customers and industries.”
