Toshiba Libretto U100 Reviews

Toshiba Libretto U 100 Laptop Review PC World reviews the new mini laptop from Toshiba : Libretto U100 notebook and writes: “Toshiba’s Libretto U100 weighs only about two pounds, but features big-time performance.”

The mini-notebook from Toshiba which is about the size of a video cassette and weighing just over two pounds, is appreciated for its features:

Unique to the Libretto U100 notebook from Toshiba is the integration of a 3D accelerometer that senses sudden movement in any direction and parks the hard drive to protect data loss. On my test unit, it was so sensitive that if the desktop surface was not even, the alarm would trigger, interrupting my work. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Overall, it’s the Lilliputian size and weight of the Libretto notebook that will attract road warriors who want to travel without being encumbered. My advice: try out the keyboard and touchstick before you buy. If you can deal with them, you’ve got an otherwise worthy and powerful portable PC.

PC Magazine also have a Toshiba Libretto U100 Review:

The Libretto U100 notebook is about the size of a small book (as its name in Italian translates) and measures a mere 8.3 by 5.7 by 1.2 inches. Inside you’ll find a full-size version of the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system. Outside, there’s a touch-typable QWERTY keyboard.
The Toshiba Libretto’s screen is by far the biggest in this crop of miniature PCs. It sports a 7.2-inch widescreen with Toshiba’s TruBrite technology.

And as a conclusion of the review: “if you just need something you can toss in your bag to keep you in touch and caught up while on the go, the Toshiba Libretto U100 laptop should be your tiny notebook of choice.”

On CNET Reviews there is also a Toshiba Libretto U100-S213 Review. The Toshiba mini notebook gets from the editors a “Good” rating (6 out of 10):
“The Toshiba Libretto U100 laptop is built for road warriors and gadget hounds who feel that even four or five pounds of computer gear is just too much to carry between airport gates or meeting rooms. Though it’s been continuously sold in Japan, the U100 is the first Libretto notebook in six years to be sold in the United States – and it’s among the smallest and lightest notebooks available anywhere. Looking like a Lilliputian version of a typical laptop, this two-pound wonder laptop is deceptively powerful and can compete with larger and heavier systems, but its tiny screen and keys present a challenge when it comes to getting work done for long stretches. We laud the effort to downsize the notebook, but the new Libretto U100 notebook from Toshiba shows that less can be – well, less. At $1,999 (as of July 2005), we think less-expensive designs that weigh a few ounces more and have grown-up keyboards and screens, such as the Dell Latitude X1 or even the U100’s sibling Toshiba Portege R200 laptop, will prove much more useful. Sturdy yet elegant, the black, white, and silver Toshiba Libretto U100 features an internal aluminum frame, a magnesium base, and a brushed-aluminum and plastic lid that are designed to take a beating. Petite and light, the Toshiba U100 is about as small as a notebook gets these days.”
