Samsung X20 laptops with MIMO

Samsung X20 Laptops will have MIMOSamsung announced that it will ship new laptops with embedded MIMO Wi-Fi technology based on Airgo’s True MIMO chipset. The technology based on Airgo’s True MIMO chipset will offer enhanced wireless performance through using multiple wireless streams on a single channel using two or more antennas. Airgo claims speeds of up to 108Mbps, although actual speeds will be slower with network overhead. The new Samsung X20 models will offer MIMO-enhanced wireless connections while maintaining interoperability with 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11a/g devices.

K.H. Uhm, Vice President of Marketing for Samsung, said,

“Given their significant technology lead, Airgo’s True MIMO is the best fit for embedded wireless in our new high performance Samsung X20 laptops. Together, we are enabling the mobile office by offering a standards-based platform with wireless connectivity that outperforms all other embedded solutions on the market.”

According to third-party testing conducted by The Tolly Group, Samsung laptops with embedded True MIMO technology provide eight times the speed and 13 times the coverage area compared to the same Centrino-based notebook.

Airgo claims that in power-consumption tests, True MIMO technology is 2.1 times more energy efficient than Centrino wireless.
