Cnet Reviews published a Compaq Presario V4000 review and writes:
“Though it’s cooler-looking than much of the competition, the HP Compaq Presario V4000 laptop is still a quintessential mainstream/value notebook. At $1,579, it’s also more expensive than alternatives such as the Gateway M460S, which offers a comparable performance and twice the battery life. Still, the Compaq Presario V4000 is a solid all-around notebook for a student or a home user who needs good performance and a complete set of basic features and connections.
The Presario V4000 can handle tomorrow’s digital demands with a PCI Express slot for high-speed expansion, though no cards are currently available (expect the first in the next few months). ”
The laptop takes 5.6 points out of ten and an “Average” rating in this review.
Although the attractive design, the presence of the PCI Express slot, the LightScribe double-layer optical drive and the versatile flash card slot as well as the great Wi-Fi range are appreciated, the wide-screen 15.4-inch display isn’t as bright as others’, the HP Compaq presario V4000 lacks dedicated video memory and speakers offer thin sound so this Compaq Presario V4000 ends with this conclusion:
“The attractive HP Compaq Presario V4000 delivers good performance and a complete set of basic features, but it comes up a bit short on battery life.”
Also there is a recent Compaq Presario V4000 review from HotHardware:
Overall, the Compaq Presario V4000 made a fair impression on us. There are two main groups that this notebook will attract, and our conclusions for those two groups have come to different ends. People needing the high end performance with low levels of mobility should find this notebook attractive for the price. This also goes for those looking for a reasonably priced multimedia platform (the V4000 with BrightView). The catch is going to be that this is, after all, is a relatively inexpensive machine, and is not a top of the line multimedia notebook. Even with a BrightView screen, it isn’t completely up to par with the glare-type displays found on the competitive models we have seen from some other companies.
While it is not a best-of-class multimedia platform per say, the general users who watch the occasional movie will probably be content with the Compaq Presario V4000 laptop from HP. Those that are more avid movie watchers, and can perceive the ever so slight differences between an awesome display and a so-so display, might notice a difference in those specific bright or dreary scenes. For the moment, if you are planning to mainly use the Compaq V4000 for e-mail, word processing, and just occasional movie watching, we recommend going without the BrightView option. Take up BrightView if you are planning to watch movies, video files, and the like more often than not.
The conclusion of this review:
“In the end, we would like to see Compaq make some improvements to the Presario V4000 platform, perhaps we will see some of them implemented down the road. For its price range however, the Compaq Presario V4000 laptop is a very good buy. In the end, we are giving the V4000 a 7.5 on the Heat Meter.”
