Forbes reports: Montavista And PalmSource Reveal Joint Venture
A venture to accelerate the development of next-generation Linux-based mobile phones has been revealed by Linux provider MontaVista Software and PalmSource Inc (NASDAQ:PSRC), the company behind the Palm Operating System.
PalmSource is reported to have joined MontaVista’s Mobilinux Open Framework partner programme, a venture for the creation and promotion of Linux-based handset reference architectures. The main aim of the programme is to enable mobile handset operators and vendors to develop differentiated products and services, resulting in a faster and more efficient and shipment of devices and lower development costs.

The two companies intend to use their experience and partnership to develop integrated solutions for mobile operators and handset vendors seeking to construct Linux handsets.
