Apple PowerBook G4 15-inch Reviews

August 6th, 2005

Apple PowerBook G4 15 inch laptopApple PowerBook G4 15-inch Reviews
The 15-inch PowerBook G4s are impressive pieces of engineering, with stunningly bright screens, plenty of power, all the right ports, and a solid feel.
CNET Reviews has a review of the Apple PowerBook G4 (15-inch, SuperDrive) and writes:

“The Apple PowerBook’s sleek aluminum shell is hard to miss, and the 15-inch model has particularly pleasing dimensions.

Buying a laptop typically demands certain trade-offs, but with the beautifully designed thin-and-light 15-inch PowerBook G4, there’s no need to compromise: it delivers portability, performance, and a 15.2-inch (diagonal) display that’s great for graphics work, watching DVDs, and just about anything else. Like the 17-inch PowerBook G4, this 15-inch model includes features such as a scrolling trackpad and a Sudden Motion Sensor that protects the hard drive when the laptop is dropped. In addition, the 15-inch PowerBook G4 is among the new fleet of Macs running on Mac OS X Tiger, and it ships with the iLife ’05 software suite. Though the excellent software package adds significant value, on a pure hardware basis, the PowerBook G4 comes at a premium: a similarly configured ThinkPad T43, for example, costs $500 less.”

For the beautiful sleek-and-slender design, the robust software package, including Mac OS X Tiger, the illuminated keyboard and scrollable trackpad and the presence of the SuperDrive DVD burner, the Apple PowerBook G4 15-inch laptop receives 7.1 points (“Very Good” rating).

MacWorld wrote about the 15-inch PowerBook G4s (review):

“The 1.25GHz 15-inch PowerBook G4 is a noticeably snappy performer. Finder menus flick down in an instant, applications launch in next to no time, and iTunes visuals are as smooth as velvet. The keyboard is solid and crisp — both it and the trackpad button require slightly more pressure than the Titanium PowerBook’s keyboard. ”

And PC Magazine has an Apple PowerBook G4 (15-inch) review and states:

Apple designs very sexy machines, and the Apple PowerBook G4 is a fine example, though you’ll spend a pretty penny for such design.

The Apple PowerBook G4 scored the highest points in our mainstream category for video and gaming on our multimedia scripts. If it’s an Apple portable you want, the PowerBook G4 lets you walk around in style. If it’s too much for your tastes, you can opt for the smaller, lighter, and more affordable Apple iBook (12-inch).

Toshiba Tecra M2 Reviews

August 6th, 2005

Toshiba Tecra M2 laptopLaptop magazine has a Toshiba Tecra M2 review and writes:

“Inside its svelte silhouette, the Toshiba M2 packs more than enough power for the average PowerPoint pie chart. A Pentium M processor hums along at 1.7 GHz, aided by a sizeable 512MB of memory. With a 60GB hard drive, our test unit was well equipped for lots and lots of slideshows.

As befits a high-end Toshiba notebook, ours came with 802.11b/g compatibility, as well as Bluetooth. The notebook’s 14.1-inch screen has XGA native resolution, a good match for most of today’s projectors.

For extra graphics punch, the screen is powered by Nvidia GeForce Go5200 graphics and 64MB of video memory. And, for outputting your presentation, the Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook has not only the standard VGA port, but also S-video.”

The conclusion of this review is that at $1,899, the Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop is not only very friendly to presenters but to their accountants as well.

Toshiba Libretto Review from MSNBC

August 5th, 2005

Toshiba Libretto U100 laptop miniToshiba Libretto U100 mini laptop, which already got some good reviews has now a new review from MSNBC. The Toshiba Libretto Review from MSNBC has a great title: “Toshiba’s new mini laptop is almost perfect”. The columnist writes:

“The 21st century Libretto, approximately half the size of the average laptop, is slightly larger than its ancient predecessor and a much more sophisticated computer. Today’s Libretto model U100 measures 8.27 by 6.5 by 1.17 inches and weighs 2.16 pounds. It comes with a tiny CD/DVD (read/write) docking station which snaps on the bottom and adds one inch and one pound to the package. It also comes with Windows XP Pro.”

The display of the Toshiba Libretto U100 laptop is considered very good:

“The 7.2 inch widescreen LCD display is a thing of beauty. This machine can easily double as a portable DVD player. All you need is a good set of earphones.”

The only thing that drawback the Toshiba Libretto U100 mini laptop (at least from this review’s point of view) is the keyboard:

“The new Toshiba Libretto U100 is an absolutely wonderful computer -– very fast, versatile with loads of battery reserves. But, it needs an improved input system before I could recommend it without reservation.”
