Opinion about HP Compaq V2000

August 9th, 2005

HP Compaq V2000 Presario LaptopIf you are interested of a Compaq presario V2000 review from an actual user, here is what Mrs Geekyinfo recently wrote about the HP Compaq V2000:

The requirements of the a new laptop: “My main requirements for a notebook was that it would be as light and compact as possible to allow for lugging it and books around a uni campus during my part time study. I also wanted it to be under $1500 so as not to drain the budget too much. After a number of bent wireless cards, I wanted inbuilt WiFi. If at all possible I preferred that the thing didn’t look like it had been designed by the makers of desert boots.”

Mrs Geekyinfo bought the HP Compaq V2000 laptop and writes:

‘The keyboard, screen and set up is all very nice. It is pretty light and compact, particularly alongside Phil’s Sony with a much larger screen, but even compared to the couple of older notebooks we have at our house. It is very pretty, particularly when open and feels reassuringly solid and stable.’

Good Time to Buy A Low-end Laptop

August 9th, 2005

Or at least this is what PC World recommends:

“If you’re willing to file those rebate papers, you can pay less than $500 at many major retailers this month.

Individual vendors previously dipped below the $500 mark with low-end notebooks this year but currently four major retailers as well as PC market leader Dell all had sub-$500 laptops displayed prominently on store shelves and in circulars over the past weekend, said Sam Bhavnani, principal analyst at Current Analysis in San Diego.”

Well, no need to rush to computer shops because the good prices are expected to stay:
“Notebooks are reaching the maturity that desktops reached a few years ago,” Bhavnani said. He predicted vendors and retailers will continue to push each other to lower prices in the second half of the year, which is usually the busiest shopping period for PCs.

HP Compaq nx6110 Review from LaptopMag

August 9th, 2005

HP Compaq NX6110 notebookCompaq nx6110 notebook from HP is powered by Intel® Pentium® M processors or Intel® Celeron® M processors and features a 15.0-inch XGA display (1024 x 768 resolution and 16 M colors) or 15.0-inch SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution and 16 M colors) and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900, up to 128-MB shared system memory. HP Compaq nx6110 specifications includes HP ProtectTools, HP Drivelock , HP Mobile Data Protection System and HP Panel Protection System.

Finally the HP Compaq nx6110 notebook have a review and this one comes from Laptop Magazine. They write:

With its charcoal gray-and-black exterior, the HP Compaq nx6110 is a buttoned-down business notebook with its eye on the bottom line. For a tantalizing $799, you get a 15-inch display, a strong Wi-Fi connection, and a plenty-fast Celeron M processor. For those that could care less about frills like memory card slots and DVD burners, this 6.1-pound portable has the right combination of features to tackle your work day.

With 512MB of RAM preloaded, the nx6110 multitasked well. We launched iTunes, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and played the movie Shaun of the Dead simultaneously without much of a hiccup.

Except for the mic and headphone jacks, all the ports on the HP nx6110 notebook are placed on the left side for convenient plug-and-play access. A standard DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive is on the right. It’s a smart layout, but HP should move the VGA port to the back and add a USB port on the right side in future updates, as that is where most right-handed users would connect a mouse or USB drive.

The full-sized keyboard is comfortable to use; the keys have the right springiness to make touch-typing a joy. We do wish there were dedicated volume control keys. The touchpad, after a few adjustments in the OS, was responsive, but we can’t say the same for the touchpad buttons; we were constantly pressing them by accident.

The final word:
“Given its aggressively low price, the HP Compaq nx6110 has plenty to offer. It lacks multimedia capabilities and won’t turn any heads, but it’ll get the job done.”

Toshiba Libretto U100 Reviewed by Mobile Magazine

August 9th, 2005

Toshiba Libretto U100 notebookThe new Toshiba Libretto U100 notebook receives a lot of attention lately. After the Toshiba Libretto Review from MSNBC there is another review of the Toshiba Libretto U100 laptop, this time from Mobile Magazine. They write:

Practically a handtop, the petite Libretto U100 is a fully functional notebook the size of a hardcover. Its size can be a problem, but for sheer portability and wow factor, the U100 is a winner.

Though the Libretto’s screen is small, it’s exceedingly sharp, mustering up a 1,280 x 768-pixel resolution, just like on a larger widescreen notebook.

What is nice is that the best feature and the worst feature of the Toshiba Libretto U100 is considered the same feature:

Best Feature : Incredibly small
Worst Feature: In many ways, it’s too small

The review ends with:
“All in all, the Libretto is challenged by its small size. Its keyboard is a real finger-twister, and its screen is sure to give you the squints. But some people like it small. If you need “mine’s smallest” bragging rights, or just something to go with your Shriner cars, Chihuahua, and garden gnomes, this is it.”

Gizmondo US launch date delayed

August 8th, 2005

Gizmondo HanheldThe launch date for Gizmondo handheld was originally scheduled for August 11th.

But GamesIndustry reports that Gizmondo Delays US Launch:

“We’re moving the release date, which is why there hasn’t been anything promotion-wise yet,” said the representative. “The new release date is now October for the North American Gizmondo launch. More details will be released next week. There will be a launch event, but at present it’s not been decided where or when.”

The slip has been attributed to the lack of two key titles to the territory, a satellite navigation package and “major” unnamed US game. “August is a slow month for retail, and with these two major items of software delayed, it made little sense to launch the machine,” said our source.

Further to this, he revealed that the company is suffering a hardware shortage, which would hamper its ability to release Gizmondo across the US as initially planned. It is hoped that the October date will allow more time for distribution as well as giving time for the opening of a Los Angeles office for a Gizmondo specific R&D team and a dedicated marketing staff to couple the current sales team.

Meanwhile, Gizmondo Europe has published this month’s game line-up for the handheld, with Classic Compendium, Ball Busters, EA Sports FIFA Football 2005, and SSX 3 all due during the next four weeks. Point of Destruction will be the first of this new batch, releasing this Friday for UKP 9.99.

August 8th, 2005

Cnet Reviews talks about the the five most beautiful laptops: “Forget the 50 most beautiful people check out these foxy laptops.

The most beautiful laptops in their opinion are:

The editor writes:

The Toshiba Portege R200 is supermodel slim, and the Acer Ferrari 4000 is styled after a hot sports car. The Apple PowerBook G4 and the Toshiba Qosmio G25 are shiny and really well designed. The Sony VAIO VGN-A690 has an understated elegance and a big, beautiful display. Whatever their specific appeal, these notebooks are so good-looking that you’re likely to sneak peeks into your laptop bag just to gaze at them. Hey, geeks want eye candy too.

Really good laptops, we agree with that.
